Charlie made some good comments. I'll add a few more. When I was a boy, we used one of these saws on an M to cut a lot of firewood. No one ever got hurt, but there is certainly no way to make one of these things meet current safety standards. It's a real dangerous thing. You need at least two people to run the thing. One handles the logs and feeds them to the person operating the saw. The person at the saw pushes the table with the log on it back into the saw and then tosses the cut off piece to the pile. When the carriage (table) comes back, then the person with the log pushes it onto the table for the next cut. Whatever you do, don't try to run that thing by yourself. We never ran the saw much above idle speed. You don't need to rev it up much.
