1942 Farmall H 12V Electrical problems

I have a 1942 H that has been converted to 12V. I have constant problems with a weak or non-existant spark. Tractor is hard to start. It cranks and cranks, and when you let off the starter, it suddenly fires and takes off. A friend told me this indicates low voltage - that the starter drains enough voltage that it won't spark, and letting off the starter allows the voltage to rise, now creating spark. Sometimes the tractor won't start at all. Checking spark indicates a very weak or non-existant spark. I have frequently had to loosen spark plug wires to get it to run better when I have been able to start it. Yet making the wires tight makes it run worse. Tractor has a one-wire 12V Delco alternator, Delco distributor, new points, new condensor, new 12V externally resisted coil, external resistor (not new), new dist. cap and rotor, new plug wires, and new AC D21 plugs. And I still continue to have problems. This is definitly not a fuel problem. Plugs will be wet with gas when I look at them. Any help would be appreciated. Also, a copy of a wiring diagram (even if for 6V). Also, could anyone supply info on what proper voltages should be at various points in the electrical system, particularly in front of and behind the resistor, prior to entering the coil? Thanks!
