Super easy. Get a compression tester. Check when engine is hot. I pull each plug one at a time. Keep the ignition switch off. Choke off, throttle open full. Screw the tester into the plug hole. Hit the starter for 3-5 revolutions looking at the gauge.

Interpreting the results is a little more art than science. If the tester jumps right up to about 120 PSI on all cylinders, all is well. Lower compression equals lower horses and more worn engine components. No compression equals stuck valves or busted piston. Weak compression could be worn rings, valves or both. If you squirt oil in the cylinder and the compression goes up, suspect rings. If it stays about the same, suspect valves. Of course there could be other problems like blown head gasket, cracked block or head, burned or bent valves, etc. but these are the basics.

Your problem does not seem to me to be compression related though...BB
