Matthew that tube is very important. It drips oil on the valve and rocker assemblies for lubrication. To convert back to 6 volt, not much has to be done. If there is a resistor in the coil line, remove that or you won't have enough voltage going to the coil. You will need 6 volt light bulbs and of course the battery. More than likely the starter is the original 6 volt.
