To set the static timming (time it with out engine running), put the engine on number 1 TDC. Turn the ignition on and put a test light on the negative terminal on the coil. Loosen the distrubuter and turn it until the light on the test light comes on. WHen it comes on, you know your points are open because electricitry takes the path of least resistence. When the points are closed, it is easier for the current to go through the points and to ground, and will not light up the test light. When the points are open, it is easier for the current to go through the test light, and thus, light up the bulb. When the light turns on, turn the distributer slightly against rotation, until the light just goes out. This will give you a small amount of advance. Tighten down the distributer, and make sure you have all the wires hooked up properly. Firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. It will give you a close guess on the timing. It'sclose enough to get the engine to fire. You will still have to do the proper timing when the engine is running, but at least you will know it will fire. I just did this on my 560. It fired right up almost instantly, and purred like a kitten.
