Two weeks on a dairy farm does not qualify you as a dairy farmer. That was a vacation for you. Just wait till you have to make a decision on what to do about that sick cow that either DA'd or is just off feed or got the winter dystery and be ther 2 times a day to milk plus the feeding and the other thankless job. Can you figure a balanced ration for the old girls and how about a ration for the dry cows?? How well are you at picking out which bull to use and from which stud barn? I don't believe you can get that knowledge in two weeks and don't believe every thing the extension people tell you!!I know a little bit about dairy farming, done that 40 years, not for the money --just like animals and soil-- Oh we do have 1000# fat herd ave. so we did do a few things right. My son is the 5th generation to farm this farm, I know he will be the last. There are too many 5 day week jobs in town so his two boys will not milk cows 7 days a week!!!!!!!!!!!!
