I had the same problem when I restored my '40 B. I never measured one for sure, but, The power units I have seen looked like they had a shorter hood than the tractors. I was resigned to removing the "J" hooks and drilling out a later hood for the dzus fittings when I finaly found a right one in a scrap yard. I still think it would work if it had to. One problem I had was the radiator was twisted (a previous owner had a tree fall on the tractor I found out later) which meant that the hood and grill couldn't meet right. When I got a straight radiator, things came together OK. Make sure your radiator is mounted straight or the attachment holes will never line up.
