A friend of mine has a Belarus tractor and he pronounced it "be LA' rus", as in Polaris. I thought he said Polaris at first. I had always assumed it was pronounced "be la ROOS'" as in the name of the former Soviet republic. Which is correct? Are these good tractors? Have a happy 4th of July. I'll have my '52 VAC in the local parade pulling a float.

The home-built trailer I bought has rough sawed white oak. The low spots can hold moisture and lead to problems. However, with mine I had very few low spots and was able to manage them by drilling a few small drain holes here and there. I like the "non-slip" surface of rough sawed lumber for decking.

I have bought and sold with it but I no longer use them for my sales. If I remember right they charged me around $50 to transfer $1600 into my checking account. That was my last time to use them for sales.

Big Jim,
You mentioned an aftermarket joystick kit for the Belarus hydraulic control valves in a July 5 01 message. Where can I find more info on the aftermarket kit i.e. price availability. Also, does anyone else have info on this subject. thanks very much.

I believe it is pronounced J-U-N-K HA Ha! Only kidding The next place over has one and it seems to be pretty well built, its a little strange in its setup and some of the electrical components don't seem to hold up too well, but have all been converted to American parts. Around here they say it like polaris but during the olympics they pronounce the country belaroos. T.J. Ps. Shame on you for talking about a commie tractor on the 4TH.Ha Ha!

BEL-A-ROOS with the accent on ROOS is the correct pronounciation. When I spent some time in Estonia I saw lots of these tractors, they are the most common tractor in that part of the world. Lately many have been sold up here in Northern Ontario, they cost one third of what a John Deere costs, I have talked to many owners, some love them, others have had nothing but problems.

We had a Russian guy where I worked several years ago .

He says bel-la-roos with a heavy accent on the roos .

Opinions are mixed on the desireability of these tractors .

Thanks to all who answered. I may be seeing the owner of the tractor tomorrow and I'll tell him the majority seem to think the proper pronunciation doesn't sound like Polaris. His must be quite a tractor as he paid $20k +++ for it I'm told. I think it articulates. I'll find out tomorrow.
