1785 Aug. 23. "Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independant, the most virtuous, and they are tied to their country and wedded to it's liberty and interests by the most lasting bands." (TJ to John Jay, B.8.426)

CC, your name reminds me of something a working cowboy once told me - you have to be numb on both ends to want to make your living on a horse !

Farmers (in The Netherlands) have traditionally been known as people who complain regularly about all kind of matters. Do you know during which month of the year they complain least? That's February, because that is the shortest month of the year...

A more serious one (from my father, who's a lifelong farmer): "If everything would be known beforehand, everyone could be a farmer."
And: "A good work horse has no color" Meaning that appearance or cosmetics are of very little importance if it comes to hard farm work.

The term "Farm Organization" is an oxymoron. Organizing Farmers is like trying to move frogs with a wheelbarrow.

A slick politician approches a farmer telling him of all he has done for farming and what he will do if he gets re-elected. The farmer is a little impressed when the politician askes him to be a committed part of his "TEAM". This wears thin though as the politician rambles on and on. After an hour and a half of daylight is lost the farmer informs the politician that he can't commit to his campagin but is willing to be involved. "Committed, invloved what's the difference asked the man in the suit ? "Think of it in farming terms" said the man in the overalls. Think back to your breakfast of bacon and eggs this morning. My chickens may have been involved but my pigs were committed

Heard about the new (insert brand) tractor? It has no seat or steering wheel. It's for the farmer who's lost his a$$ and don't know which way to turn. . .

Know why farmers cap bills are always tightly curled? It's from looking in the mailbox for a government check. . .

Before anyone chastises me for being critical of the farmer - I heard both of these from farmers and have been a small farmer most of my life.

It doesn't matter how big you are - how big's your farm?

;)

That is a very good one!
I am only 5 foot 18 inches, my weight is around 200 lbs but I have no acreage to speak of. ;)

The farmer won a million bucks. He said he'll just keep farming until it's all gone.

Years ago when daylight savings time was first being considered up here, apparently there was a farmer that was very mad about it because he said "My crops are already short of water. Now I'm going to have another hour of sunlight which will make things worse." Now, I can't say for sure if that really happened but in any case it's pretty funny.
