What is your current project and why did you chose it?

I'll go first. My current project is a 1950 John Deere B. I chose it pretty much because I wanted an old deere and the price was right. It will also suit my needs on these 10 acres as well.

Your turn!

Karl

'39 JD H. I chose it because it will fit in my back yard. I don't farm and I live in town. It will be a long term project. Lack of funds and lack of spare time keep me from working on it as much as I would like. If and when I get it completed, I'll just run it in parades or just drive it around town to annoy the neighbors. LOL

If you want to annoy the neighbors, get yourself one of them railroad, motorcars and start that up in the backyard.

Current Projects:

Kid's fort (done built, needs stained)
Chicken Coop and pen
Add electric fence to back pasture for critters
1941 Allis B. My only tractor at the moment. I want to convert to 3 point for more implement options.
1975 Massey Ferguson MF-12 (garden tractor) motor needs put back together so that I can quit mowing the yard with the brush hog :)
1983 Suzuki GS-450 morotcycle
Plus the never-ending honey-do list.

Future plans involve the Farmall H that used to be my wife's great-grandfathers.

In the process of restoring a '44 Oliver 70 and building an Oliver 88 puller. Got a trailer to haul it on but I need to upgrade the trailer with better hitch, new brakes, wheels, drums, tires, paint, ect.

Going to add on to my shop starting the first week in June.

Got to replace some sheet metal on Dads Chevy pickup truck and paint it.

Then, after lunch, I got to paint my 88 Buick.

In my spare time I will try to get some real work done.

My current project is a bit contraversial, we are trying to put my 1917 25HP 20th Century traction engine back on steel.
The original wheels and undercarriage were lost to the scrap drive during WWII. It was re-ed (reconfigured, semi-restored) the way it is on a Ford bus chassis in 1960...
Pros to putting it back on steel: It was the last 20th Century produced, It is the last one known to be left this size, and one of 3 operable survivors of this make. Some rather poor engineering choices in the 1960 conversion continue to cause manueverability and other problems.
Cons against the changeover: Lack of original 20th Century parts will require a bit of creative "restification". For half (41yrs) of her existance she has looked like this, compared to only 25 or so in her original state. (If anybody is violently enough opposed to the reconversion to trade her for an operational Baker or Case steam engine or roller, then I'll reconsider....)

Anyway, we are currently seeking a chain and bolster steering parts, including the gearset, and the spring shock absorbers for the chains...anybody got any good leads?

Why did I choose it? I guess I am a glutten for punishment.

My current project is a '48 Farmall H I purchased it about 6 weeks ago, as a "running tractor".
This is my first tractor and I found out it was just barely running, just about enough to get it loaded on the trailer.
It has been a real learning experience, I have it running well now , and just completed rewiring the tractor and converting to 12 Volts then I fabricated a hitch with hydraulics to attach a back blade that works very nicely.I'm slowly disassembling this old girl and cleaning and painting a little bit at a time while still trying to keep her usable.
I use this tractor for bladeing the small desert acreage that I live on. Nothing too serious, a smaller tractor would be more suitable except I need the weight of this H to be able to break up the hard clay soil here.

This past winter I bought a 1953 Farmall Super C and then about a month later came home with a 1951 Oliver OC-3 (wife wasn't too happy). Last year we bought a house that sits on 120 acres, mostly wooded but has about 40 acres of fields that used to be hayed, and that is why I bought the super C to start cleaning up the fields again and plowing up a garden and to move snow, the Oliver was just a deal I didn't feel I should pass up. Both run and work but need alot of little things. The super c just got a head job, a new carb and a pile of gaskets, I would really like to restore it but I don't have the time right now as I need to use it, The oliver needs a wheel bearing before I use it again, thats a back burner project but it will come in handy making small road ways on my property and again moving snow. I would like to find an older diesel tractor like a MD or 300-400 farmall diesel to restore and then when that is done I could use that and restore my Super C.

No tractors any time soon, but as soon as I get done fixing fence and remodelling the master bedroom, I want to build a rack dump body for my ton truck, and if there's any time/money left, I have permission to build a shed to park equipment under. Then there's the John Deere Model H manure spreader that needs wirebrushing and painting, and the IH hayrake that needs a new tires and a seal in the gearbox, and the Howard tiller that needs two new seals and a gasket, and The Red Menace needs a good bath and a paint touch-up before the show in July and....

You mean after I get all the wood for next winter in the shed, get the greenhouse built for the wife, lay the new drain line for the kitchen sink, get the sugarhouse built, get my Sisters Farmall H back together, and log off some White Ash and Oaks?

I think I'll have a beer...

My first is a 1958 MF50. I will use it to maintain approx. 4 acres with pheasant/deer cover and a small food plot but that was just an excuse to buy it! It'll get more use giving my 3 and 5 yr olds rides. Its in pretty good shape so I'd like to restore it, never done anything like this before though so we'll see how it goes.

My latest is a 1950 Ford F-6 truck. I learned to drive in a 1948 F-5 grain truck, so it's a bit of nostalgia. I hope to get it running good, get the dents out of it, a coat of paint on it and use it for hauling tractors. Unfortunately there are plenty of other demands on my cash and my time, so this will be a multi-year project.

Have a JD 70D that I'm trying to paint. Not really worried about it being perfect as I will do a little pulling and a little mowing with it. My doll is a JD 40V. It is apart now and I am trying to get over the baby's wedding. When I do, the engine will get a turned crank, rings, bearings, etc. The rest as I can afford it. Plan to use this one strickly for show.

I brought a 1961 Cub Cadet Original back to life a few weeks back. I'll give it a paint job later this year. My 8 year old daughter is the primary operator. I won't let her mow with it yet until she is a bit larger and can fully use the clutch.

Also have a 1942 Farmall H behind my Indy house that I got in trade for the JD 4400 combine. That H is as stuck as they get. I'll work on it off and on as time permits. I don't think anybody will steal it.....

I just bought a old Cub Cadet model 71 on saturday. Probaly a 66' or 67'. The previous owner just re-built the Kohler 7 hp. engine, repainted everything(looks nice) and put new blades on the deck and then the crankshaft broke. After I put the crankshaft in I will start restoring my IH 3-14" fast-hitch plow.

Finishing up my second MH101jr. Why I did a second one I'll never know but my neighbours dad made me up a beautiful set of sidecovers (he's a retired sheetmetal worker). Then hopefully this fall I'll start on my '45 Avery A then after that my basket-case Case V. I'm retiring at the end of June so should have a bit more time.

Mine was a 1945 es BR that showed up at a neighbor's small-time used tractor sales. The tractor was sold to him by a retiring hobby farmer. Drove it home, had a set of fenders made, sandblasted and painted the thing and now the heaviest pulls its had are parade floats. This all started in '95, been hooked ever since.

Earthmaster, '48 or '49 I think, can't find a serial number. Got it cleaned up, primed, bout ready to paint. Got the engine (cont. N-62)back together with re-ground crank, new bearings, rings, & valve guides. Didn't know there was an Earthmaster till I saw this one at an estate auction about 3 years ago. It's just gonna be for playing, parades, hauling my granddaughter around etc. Gotta come up with some kinda cute little wagon/trailer to pull behind it now. Anyone have any ideas? I'd like to find some old rubber-tired, wood-spoke wheels. Saw some that came off an old fire-hose cart the other day, looked really good on a small cart.

It will be a working tractor, so it may not get the full restoration treatment, but it will get new fluids, plugs, filters, rear rims, carb kit and a paint job. Runs strong in all gears and pulls great. It'll suit my needs on my forty acres for a good long while, I hope.
