I just had to say there are good people out there. My son came home from Iraq a few weeks ago for his 2 weeks leave. While he was in Atlanta waiting for his next flight a couple from New York asked him if he had eaten. He was in his uniform. He told them no and so they took him to lunch. During the conversation they asked him about his family so he told them he had a wife and daughter. As he was getting ready to leave he thanked them and then they handed him $65.00 and told him to take his family out to supper when he got home. To hear him tell it brought tears to my eyes. I will never know who they were but it made me proud to be an American. Lord willing he will be home soon. Just had to say something. Thanks for listening

I wish your son a welcome home from Iraq. The people he meant in the airport are what this country is all about.I was in his shoes 30 some years ago and I know his joys and fears of coming home.I noticed your pride in your son too "DAD" and be proud of him. Thanks for shareing your story and tell your son "Thank you".

I'm glad to hear your son is getting to be home for a couple of weeks leave. Yes, I think that the vast majority of Americans appreciate what our brave young soldiers are doing and would do any thing they can to help them out. Glad to know your son is OK, I was wondering but afraid to ask, fearing I had missed a post or something and didn't want to cause you any undue stress by asking. Still praying for him, Chris

tmay,
There's more kindness and gratitude being shown to our service men and women now than ever before. Sometimes a kind word, smile or just simple chit/chat can really help them feel better about the job they are having to do and lets them know that a lot more people care about them than is reported in our media. Stand tall, bless them all. Hand Salute. jackie

Sure wasn't that way when I was in the Army in the early seventies. We stayed out of uniform when we traveled if it was allowed. People acted as if we had leprosy. I'm sure pleased it isn't that way anymore!

I spend alot of time in airports and have had the opportunity to anonymously pay for meals for servicemen. I can't do it personally because I cry too easy. It's an honor to treat them with respect.
On one flight home from Dallas, a fellow in first class gave up his seat and moved to the rear of the aircraft so a wounded soldier could fly in comfort. Alaska Airlines treated them all to meals and a drink and gave them DVD players w/o charge. I got a chuckle out of that because the whole unit fell asleep in about 20 minutes once we were airborne.
Yes, there are good people out there.
