I found an old pull-style sickle bar mower in the weeds behind a barn at a farm near here. I asked about it and the man said he wanted $50 for it if i were going to restore it. I wont get it until i get back from vacation in the middle of june, but still. I have never seen anything like it before, very intereting. Has two wheels, axle is slanted some. Has a 6 or 7 foot bar, and the PTO setup resembles an old NH baler. There is a belt that goes from the end of the PTO to the gearbox. The paint is orange, craked and old. This is the place that had me mutialiting trailers, and it looked like if he did that kind of job there 3-4 years ago when he got it it would look like this now. Is this by chance a New idea mower??? The sickles are very rusty but look solid. It is also missing a grassboard. If it really should be orange, it will look good behind my B when its done

Lanse it could be an Allis trail type mower like an 80T look at it closer and see if it has a set of connecting rods hooked to the knife if it has then this is known as twin wheel drive by Allis. As others have said a sickle can be allot of fun to use but be very careful especially when you pick up the knife to put it in transport mode that thing can move when you least expect it.

Axle is slanted some does that mean it is pulled by 1 hitch pin? Or are they caster wheels and front mounts to drawbar? New Idea trail type has a straight accross axle in trail type 1 pin hitch with most grean. Orange could be A.C., Case, Coop. Bradley was Red same as IHC, MH, Cockshutt but they could fade to think was orange

A sickle bar mower can be extremely dangerous with an inexperienced operator and should never be used if you have any loose animals like dogs running around. Why not save the $50 for other stuff you'll need for your B, like gas and oil for instance? You seem to be spending a lot and have too many projects on the go for your finances. I doubt if the expert doing your heads for a really good deal would be happy that you seem to have all this extra cash laying around. Finish one job before you start another one or you'll end up having a yard full of unfinished projects that a lot of people would consider junk. One real nice finished job is better than 100 unfinished ones. Just my opinion but I think others would agree. Dave

Keep your fingers out from between the sections and knives even when it isn't connected to a tractor. Lots of missing or ruined fingers from raising/lowering the cutter bar

That is not what they mean. You can slice your fingers off when manually raising the bar into transport position. Even though the pto is off, the sickle will drop down while raising the bar to attach the transport rod. ALWAYS keep all your fingers on the back side of the bar, not the front. That way you keep your fingers.

With the slant axle and belt drive it might be a David Bradley (Sears). Are the wheels green ?
