For anyone who remembers the late 70's and early 80's living in the Midwest, Chicago had WLS 890 AM, with Larry Lujack, Tommy Edwards and Animal Stories. They're back! Memorial Day Live 9:00am-12:00pm.

Larry Lujack was one of the rock jocks on KJR Seattle ("KJR, Seattle, channel 95" sung in the appropriate tune), in the late 60's. Along with Pat O'Day, and my personal favorite, Lan Roberts ("the nice man on the radio"). They had a "reunion" in about '89 or '90- Lan was still on the radio in Hawaii, but seemed preoccupied with sixual innuendos, and was a bit of a dissapointment. Pat O'Day is still around, guess he was a pretty serious alcoholic back in the day, does a lot of commercials for a local alcohol treatment center these days. I ran down many a battery in the transistor radio listening to those guys, and the cows could sing along with every song on the radio in the milking parlor.

Yeah, I heard "Ol Uncle Larr" the other morning.
I always liked Fred Winston better!

Wasn't in the Chicago area in the 70's and 80's but I grew up there in the 40's and 50's and remember the WLS Barn Dance every Saturday night. It was on par with the Grand Ol' Oppry,
Louisiana Hayride, and Arkansas Jubilee.

When I'se courting in the 60s, the local AM stations would shut down at sundown; would catch WLS, WLW from New Orleans, and something ..... ..WCKY??? from Cincinnati on Friday and Saturday night.

If I remember right, it was WWL from New Orleans and WLW from Cincinnati.

I 'googled' them and you're exactly right; been a long time; hadn't thought of them in years. Hadn't thought of that '59 4-door Impala, either. WCKY (AM) is also in Cincinnati.

All day Memorial Day, great music, all the originals will be there, just like it was in the 70's and 80's.

Fred Winston-WLS Boogie check and the touch tone phone lines, Catherine Johns, Les Grobstein, all the originals from the day will be back starting at 6:00am, including great music from that time period. Gosh, I remember cultivating the fields and listening to those guys every morning on the radio. What a great time that was....
