Hello,from Mn.,question-a John Deere A I am looking at has a high -low tranny it does not work in high in reverse he said it was designed that way from the factory,any truth to this?

When I was a kid, we had a 37 B, and the lockout was either broken or taken out, before we got it. The only way you could use high reverse was in a big open field.

Yep the high is set up that way and is just how it is suppose to be. My 1935 JD-B is the same way and has been since it was new. Its even in the owners manual which I also have which is also the one that came with it as in its not a reprint but its also a 1935 manual

The reverse is plenty fast (almost too fast) on the low side. Would be quite a ride on the high side.

It has a safety feature built in that shoves it out of high range when shifting into reverse. Sometimes this rod is broken or removed you could have high speed reverse. Ron Mn.
