So you bought the crude in barrels and refined it yourself? Or..... ....I've heard that John Deere diesels will run on almost any type of oil; maybe you just dumped the crude directly into the tractor fuel tank? I guess that would be great if you had your own well that didn't pump enough to ship, but at $125-135 per barrel..... ..... ? Looks like it would be better to sell rather than burn it. I'd love to hear more about your process.

I've read that when the oil industry started, oil was shipped in any locally available barrels which lead to alot of confusion in the oil markets. One company shipped in a blue barrel, I'm sorry I don't remember which company, but the blue barrels were 42 gallons and were consistent in volume. Eventually the market used the blue barrel as a reference in futures trading. Thus the market still refers to bbl (blue barrels) of oil, each being 42 gallons.

Don't you love all the "experts"? I guess that's one of the reasons I keep hanging around; learn something new every day. Apparently it's 30..... .or 42..... ....or 55..... ....or?????

Hello Roy Suomi.
One barrel of crude oil is 42 U.S. gallons. Middle east oil is light sweet crude easy to refine.
Total volume of products made from crude oil based origin is 48.43 U.S. gallons.
Guido.

If it's only 30 or 42 gallons...We've needed our butts kicked for a long time , putting up with this foolishness....What size electric motor and battery bank would it take to propel a S-10 plain-jane pickup truck for about 25 miles per day.???? And will electronics from a retired electric lift truck work??? I've also located a clean 550 Suzuki motorcycle with a bad motor for a 10 h.p. diesel conversion....Not sure if it fits yet...

It is 42 gallons. That size was established back in the 1800's as the size of the barrels that would be easily shipped. It can be confusing, even out here on drilling rigs.

A barrell of that expensive black gold is 42 gallons. The middle east oil (so Im told) is the best for refining into Gasoline cause its lighter then the US stuff and has less oils in it.
