There is no shortage of fuel in the US. How long did it take the Germans to build coal liquidfication plants to run WWII with. The US could be entirely self sufficient through coal alone in 5 years if push came to shove.
Wouldn't cost as much as imported oil either.

I am hoping it puts an end to this urban sprawl for a good long time. People might just have to band together and stay home with mom and dad for a lot longer and not go out and be breeders just because they can. World is getting too busy, too crowded and too many broke in debt people putting a huge load on the system. Stay home, stay single and have a little money for a change. We have so many uneccessary houses built around here on a whim. They break up a nice piece of farm ground to put up a huge house with a 50 year mortgage and get divorced in 3 years. Never had any intention of ever paying off the place or even staying there. All these 25 year old geniouses are thinking they are going to get rich quick by building a house and selling it for a quick profit and building another one and getting a one time tax break. Now the economy is tough and they can't pay the ARM and are bankrupt and divorced. High energy prices are going to force us to act responsible about our lives, not like a bunch of free for all hooligans that burn 5 gallons of gas to go get a mountain dew and some smokes. Life is going to change for some of us. Change and disparity can also create opportunity. I have seen a lot of tremendous deals on items that stupid people financed and couldn't afford and are now trying to sell at any cost. It's a buyers market out there right now. There will be a lot of opportunity for bright people to market fuel efficiant devices for homes and automobiles. Wind engery, solar, geothermal, wave energy. Going to get interesting. And the fossil fuels are just going to keep going up. I would bet on $10 dollar a gallon gas in less than 20 years.

There is a lot to worry about. There are a lot of families that are below poverty level, Both in Canada, and the United States, that find it very hard to get by, especially in the winter months, that have to heat their homes. I can see a lot of these families having a very hard time of it, if not freeze to death, because they can't afford to heat their homes.
My opinion any way.
Bruce.

I don't know what else to cut.... I started being very conservative on fuel usage a long time ago. Still is going to take me about the same amount of fuel to harvest my hay this year. I can't change that. We've been scrutinizing every mile we put on the vehicles a long time. I'm sick of driving like a little old lady to conserve fuel.

How will increased prices affect me? The same way they always have.

We will get by on less. We will have a lower standard of living than our parents did.

They're a few on here who talk how great the rise is. There's the one who drives forty mph everywhere he goes and wants the whole country to fail so the few speeders will slow down, there's the one who has oil stock or an oil lease that thinks he's getting rich because he's getting 100% return, while he's paying out 200% on everything else. and of course the stupid ones who just talk to hear their head rattle.

Drive slower, (saves 10% on the gas usage...Really) I just contacted a fella who is going to sell me 3 tons of pellets for $585, (delivered to my house) Eat less, Look for deals on stuff that you have to buy all the time like food, pellets, propane (which is a scam) and I will use a lot less now. The main problem that I dont get is when will the price stabilze? and gasoline prices will stay put for a few years.

I am just wondering how others are dealing with it. I already drive a small car, watch my driving habits, my house is pretty energy efficient. I guess I have the same concern as you, at what point do prices stabilize? The government figures on inflation don't contain energy prices or housing. So the real COL is quite a bit higher than what they publish. I am thinking of putting in a woodburner in, hopefully that will cut my propane use.
