hello, my 1939 john deere b does that all the times, especially when pulling, so does my 620 in 3rd gear when pulling, i say its worn gears since 3rd is the plowing gear and is always being used. just my .02 cents

Those have a real bad habit of the bearing on the end of the trans. input shaft being bad. This bearing is in that red. cover under an outer cover held on with 2 bolts to the rear of the belt pulley assy. You can pop that cover off and take a look real easy. If it is out and has been ran that way for years the red. gear may have a wear pattern set into the gears so even if everything gets all aligned up and tightened up you may still have noise from there, but usually not under a load instead of like now when it is under a load.
