I got 60 acres of corn left to plant and its all to wet down here in the Iowa River valley.

I'd switch to beans but all the bean fields are plenty wet also.

Think I can get another 20 tomorrow.

Maybe you'll get lucky and get our "barbecue low" when it heads east- been in the low 90's here the last two days in western Washington. Definitely too hot for us webfoots.

That's a good looking machine shed. Oil or wood burner?

Sure wish I could find someone willing to build one here.

I ran late to disk everything tonight--Dad hates to see me turn a wheel on a Sunday.

It is wood heat with oil drip when I am in there.

The LB white heater is set at about 40 degrees all the time.

Gary: How long since you've used those pitching forks for unloading loose hay. We had always used the U shape two fork, about 1950 dad bought the one on left with 4 forks and chains. One could spread those a long way on the top of a load. My grand dad was convinced dad was going to pull the barn roof down. It made short work of a 16" wagon rack full of hay, about 4 lifts on a load that squeezed through a 12'w by 14'h door. I know it weeded out the Farmall Cub and single horse on the pitching rope or cable. We only had rope in one barn, it got weeded out with Cub and horse.

Hugh I never got in on loose hay.Thank God.

But I did my share of bales with the gapple fork on the left.(:~{)

That fork came out of the old barn that sat right where this shop is today.

We lifted a lot of hay with those four forks. First it was loose hay and then later for the second cut it was bales on top of the loose hay which really packed it down. I drove our 9N Ford to pull the hay up and one time it started spinning and I looked over and the whole hay rack was starting to lift up. Dad had stuck a fork down into the hay rack. :o) One time when we fed the hay out of the barn all the way down to the bottom, we found a large about 12' ring of charcoal type hay. We were lucky that it never got enough air to burn.

Finished my beans yesterday. Its actually getting dry here, could use an inch or two to get the beans started and get the pastures going. Let the cows out on grass today. Man were they happy. Latest I've let them out in years and the grass is still not growing very well. Got a feeling its going to be another hard year to get enough hay. The corn has a sprout about an inch long, just about to pop up, looks good.

we"re having the same problem in northwest il. if it ever warms up i"ll have trouble finding my cows when the grass starts to grow. as it is a rabbit would have trouble hiding in the pastures.

Gary: When I saw this subject title on YT homepage and auther not yet listed, my first reaction, we got some guy with a social problem.

Now that I see who it is, you need a break anyhow. Tomorrow will be another day and you've got a whole bunch of sunshine moving in from the Canadian west. Just finished watching our national weather. Only warm weather in the country is moving to Iowa.

Here we're running to within 2-3 degrees of freezing every night. I was quite unhappy with my yellow buckwheat, took a little drive yesterday, corn that's up is all yellow as well. The wheat looks good.
