What is this tool? My Dad is 75 years old and he always know's what something like this is but he did't have a clue.

Dad's in his 60s and he said it's an antique bead-spreader for old-fashioned truck tires. Something about holding the rubber to the rim until you get the tire to seat.

But my oh my is it an antique!

I don't know but if momma catches you putting that thing on hew good bed spread again i think you might find out what it can be used for.
Its not in my book on old tools but that ain't saying much I would guess that its used in smithing some type of special tool for a certain job could be a one of kind make by a smithy. Walt

Looks like with the teeth it is for gripping metal and the center part with the sliding "ring" would be for grabbing and holding something when you slide the ring part back on the handles. I bet it is something used in blacksmithing or metal working designed to free up a hand yet be able to give it a twist when needed.

Keith : Could it be a "grease-cup remover for the old cars and machinery of the twentys ? Seems to me the "grip" goes over the cup/the Flat center goes over the ridge on the grease cup and "voila" she's off ! That's my guess...and I'm a little older than your dad ! Best of luck ! Jim B.
