Where were/are Hesston tractors popular? Don't see any around here, but there is one for sale at a local Kissimmee auction. It is a 65-46? with loader and is in great shape. I had never seen one and looked this one over. It is made by Fiat in Italy and is similar to a Long 610, White 2-65, Oliver 1355 and some Allis tractors. It had Texas dealer stickers on it, and this is in SC.

Don't think they were ever real popular. We have a 980 on the farm. Simple no frills tractor with a great maintenance record. My only complaint is with long legs its hard to get your foot on the clutch but its powerful easy to run tractor with good torque throughout the rpm range. Its real similar to our 6080 from the operators platform.

Go to your local New Holland dealer for parts. Lots of stuff from the old hesston tractors are similar to the new tractors.

Actually, I believe Fiat built the Hesston tractors and they were sold and distributed in North America by Hesston.

One of my neighbors has one. Seems to like it, had over 20 years, never any problems. Good loader tractor, has a Great Bend loader on it.

There are a few of them around Torrington. My dad said they weren't bad tractors just not popular.

We used to farm this old mans land and in turn he let us use his tractor. It was a Fiat tractor 566 with Hesston sheet metal. That was the sweetest tractor I have ever been around. Run for ever on a tank of fuel. Great hydraulics. Had a two levers for the transmission which gave you great gearing. Had plenty of power. I don't know how it would be compared to the model your looking at, but the one we had was great.

I've only seen two around here (n/w WI) - neighbor bought them becasue they were cheap. Decent fuel efficiency, but not always easy to get parts for or work on... he had quite a bit of trouble with his. I drove both while helping him fill silo, wasn't impressed with their controls or handling, especially getting in and out of the cab on his bigger one. I'm 6'1", and they must have been made for someone 5'6" or shorter.
