one more question please- I realize the firing order of the 9N is 1243...now just for the record- is Number 1 piston at the radiator or the shift lever---I dont remember why I cant remember this answer--thanks

Just remember timing end. All these old tractors were the same. Rods and caps would be marked on the timing (camshaft) side too. An engineering standard convention.
