The Department of Homeland Security decided they needed to spruce up their image a little, so started a program where they went to schools and made a self-serving presentation. Attorney General Ashcroft himself went to a third grade class, and after his presentation, asked if there were any questions. A little boy stood up and said "My name is Bobby. I have two questions. First, if Al Gore got more votes than George Bush, why wasn't he made President? Second, why is the Dept. of Homeland Security taking away our personal rights and freedoms?" Luckily for the speaker, the recess bell rang just then, and the kids dutifully filed out of the room. After recess, Mr. Ashcroft said he could take one more question. A little girl stood up and said, "My name is Emily. I have 4 questions. First, I would like to ask Bobby's two questions again; Third, why did the recess bell ring 20 minutes earlier than usual? And finally, Where's Bobby?"

I know I shouldn't say this , but I'm going to anyway, and I'm registered independent. How come it's not okay for the President to be elected according to the constitution, but it might be okay for the demo super delegates to pick a different nominee than the people do? Lee

Mike,

I'm glad I didn't have to answer the last two questions, but I can answer the first two.

1. Al Gore lost the constitutionally mandated format for electing a president. As the US Constitution specifies, he didn't have as many electoral votes as did President Bush, so he lost.

2. The Department of Homeland Security can not, and has not taken away any citizens' rights. If the citizens don't like the actions of the department, they need to talk to their constitutionally elected representatives since it is they who authorized the creation of the department and it is they who fund the department.

Have a good day.

I knew the answer to the first one, and so did you. As to the second, You gave the "official answer", to which I do not subscribe.

I won't hold my breath for when our constitutionally elected representatives give us anything more than various kinds of lip service even in an election year. Want proof, look around.
