Well, it is supposed to rain tomorrow and I was kinf of thinking maybe I should get that little 8 acre feild of soybeans in. My soil temp is warm enough, but am I getting ahead of myself and should just hold off for warmer temps. I will innoculate the seed. My seed has a maturity of 1.0

I'm gonna plant mine as soon as the fields dry off. Calender says its time. The real threat with beans is a late frost. If you figure 8 to 10 days to come up, that puts you at about the 20th of May. Usually doesn't freeze then anymore but I had to scrape frost yesteray morning. Do you feel lucky? Steve

I live in SE MN and am pondering the same guestion. I think I'am going to wait a few days. Ground is cold and plenty moist. I was looking back and several years I have planted around the 20th. Beans are not as touchy as corn when it comes to planting date they adjust. There was frost on the grass this morning and it don't take much to zap beans. Only one guy has planted beans around here yet. I picked up bean seed from the pioneer dealer this morning and he advised no hurry as grund temps are in the 55 to 60 range and beans really like 65 to 70.

If the soil temp is ready, put 'em in.

Hardly anything in here in SE Minn. Most small grain is in,very little corn,no beans.

Dave, part of the problem in this area was the lack of snow cover this winter, and the resulting deep frostline. Some power workers told me that a week ago they found frozen soil down at four feet. You might want to look at that. I'm west of you about 120 miles, and a little south. Not much in the ground here. What was planted in April will have to be redone. I'd be buying corn futures. It looks like a terrible year here in SD for corn.

I dont know about your area but the beans I have seen planted too early here in central IL dont turn out to good. They need about 24 hours in nice warm ground in order to take up moisture to start germination. If they take up cold moisture, its bad, real bad. If it cools off after they get started they can get beat up with disase. The first beans to emerge in the neighborhood are likely to be a home to every bad insect as they are hungry and with no other beans emerged, they will be pretty agressive. I suppose it is different everywhere but here beans planted when they shouldnt be can be a disaster. bill

I planted some corn on Friday and I probably shouldn't have, here in south central Mn. The ground worked up OK and I gave it half a day to dry off, but I checked the seed at about 1 3/4 in. depth after planted, it was in sticky, cold soil, now with the cold temps it is not a good combination for corn let alone soybeans. I have heard that the early planted corn around here that was put in around April 17-23 is rotting or growing down, just haven't had the degree units needed to get the corn out of the ground.

Not that much corn planted around here yet, just to many days with showers scheduled out about every other 3-4 days.

No go ahead. Here in so central Mn. I would not hesitate to plant beans if that were the field dry enough. Takes me about 15 min. to change planter over and I will do it in a heart beat this time of year just so I can plant something. Beans or corn. I have a long way to go on corn yet and don't have a bean in the ground. Wheat sure looks good though.
