Got a good start on my project today. All sheet metal is off. Pretty filthy underneath. Guess I'll start with a putty knife and some brake cleaner to find my way back to the cast. Any suggestions on a simple way to remove some grime?

Recently I have had real good luck with the oven cleaner from Dollar General. Its $1 a can and really cuts through the grease (and paint). About 10 cans and about 1-2 hours soak time and pressure wash. Sometimes I then have to go back and scrap some spots and do it again.

I use simple green in a squirt bottel, and a stiff brush. Scrub it on the dirty areas, and hose it off with water. Using break cleaner will be quite expensive. Stan

Trailer it down to the local truck wash.

If the grease has hardened due to heat and age, use a needle scaler- its an air tool with little metal pieces that go in and out of the tool. For the hardened grease, its the easiest way to do it, because the stuff won't soften up by "conventional" means.
