IF, I can find plates, will my old planter work ok with medium rounds??? Thats what I have, and the only plates I have are for medium flats. I really am sick of exchanging seed. Will the 456 plant medium rounds OK, if I can find plates?

24cell plates-round seed- 3 mile per hour- no skips-no doubles. 24 cell gives it more chances to load. round seed will roll into the cell-flat has to turn up on side.

Have had the old John Deere's, not IHC mut what I found would be same for both. Used to run all small to medium flats with the plates marked on bag, even tho the seed was supposed to be sized would put 2 kernals in a cell every now and then. Got some medium rounds and had to get the correct plates and found that the rounds would never double up like the flats did.

Thanks for the replies guys. I bought the planter from a fello by the name of Leroy. Looks like a friend of mine is giving me enough liq fert so I can borrow the neighbors JD7000 and not have to scramble this year to get the plates and dry starter. That brought my fertlizer cost/acre from $142/acre down to $74. My bean ground the soil service said I dont need a thing, that peice is prime for beans. This cropping is frustrating, yet kinda exciting. J

Yes, you can plant medium rounds with these plastic plates:

For 16 cell sprocket settings = C1X-16

For 24 cell sprocket settings = C1X-24

They are orange colored. Very common plates, should find them in most machine sheds, hanging on a nail. Or old guys who used to be seed dealers.
