Hey Allen, Did that piece of pulley come off in one piece?

I have taken my time and welded one of those in the past. The missing part was not as big as yours but it worked for years. I used nickel and would only weld about 1" at a time then peen it for a long time between welds.

Just an idea.

The pulley I am talking about that I welded was a different pully. I am thinking that it was the pulley that ran the hydrostatic pump, in fact the more I think about it, I am sure that is the one. I did the welding ont he outside, after hand filling a "V". I even sanded it by hand inside, where the belt ran to make sure there was no sharp edge to cut the belt. It didn't line up perfectly, hence the need for the sanding, but it ran for years.

And, unless it has been scrapped, it was still running up until a year or so ago. 1972 or 1973 model, straight F, but a corn soybean special, with hydrostat. Gas powered unfortunately.

Yeah,

I had really wondered about doing that. Was afraid that maybe there was too much pull on the darned thing and that a weld wouldn't hold. So, I went ahead and ordered the new hub.

How in the heck did you finally get that jasper off of the shaft? I thought this morning that there was a keeper in behind, but now I think that it holds the idler bearing on to itself.

I mean that sucker is stuck good. :>(

Thanks,

Allan

Allan I had one like that on a sawmill a few years ago. Had to replace a bearing and busted the pulley trying to get it off.
After I broke it...what the heck, just got the sawsall out and made a deep cut in the hub part not cutting all the way to the shaft. When it was close to the shaft, I used a cold chisel to open the slot and it came right off. Could see no other way to get it off.
Just my 2 cents....
