How long after spraying Round-Up on some thin weeds do I have to wait before planting grass seed?

3 days don't spray when the dew is on and hope it doesn't rain for 3 hrs. And it doesn't work well on dandelions alfalfa or milkweed so on those put it on heavy. The reason you don't spray when
the dew is on is because the plants are already
soaked and the roundup will just bounce off.

As a new plant sprouts - it's sending energy from below ground to the top. Once it gets big enough, the part above ground starts sending nutrients down to the roots. It's at that stage that Round Up (or equivalent) works. That's why it doesn't work if sprayed on plants too early in the spring when they are short. It's also why it works best in the fall. I've been waiting for weeks for my field to get to the 7" stage to spray. Just did it yesterday. I was told that Round Up no longer holds a patent so I used a generic brand this year - "Kleenup Pro" by Loveland. Hope it works.

Are you working up a seed-bed or planting into the existing "thin weeds". If not disturbing the weeds/soil, you can plant at any time; before application, after, same time, etc. If you're gonna destroy the weeds with tillage, then why the Round-up?

I would wait for 3 days or until I saw an effective kill... whichever occours first. RoundUp needs some time to translocate to the roots before you disturb the plants.
If I was pressed for time and No-Tilling the seed I'd probably drill the seed in first an then burn it off a day later or whenever I could get back BEFORE germination. That's risky on the timeline but I've done it and got away with it.... Also got caught at it with 4-5 days of rain and couldn't spray, so take your pick there.

Roundup is a "non-residual" herbicide. It is MY UNDERSTANDING that it does not hinder the germination of seeds. Roundup enters the plant through the leaves and destroys the root system. I might add that it is critical that you do not spray under drought conditions. If you do, you will have little kill results.

It also works better on young rapidly growing plants than on mature plants.
