OT car insurance question

OK, had 3 cars and house on my insurance policy. 1 car is oldest-she is buying it from me, and since I am responsible for the insurance, I had the insurance in my name, with her as the primary driver. She had a fender bender last fall in a parking lot, so insurance was used to cover the offended. Nothing said about raising my rates at that time. Now she is married, so transferred title to her and new hubby, so cancelled my insurance on it. Now, the insurance on my primary vehicle has increased $40.00 per month! I don't understand this one-still have 2 vehicles on policy (multi car discount) and house. Sounds fishy to me. Greg

Our daughter moved to a different apartment in Washington, DC, about half way across town but closer to her office. Her car insurance went up $20 per month. Her agent said they rate by zip code in DC.

What is the deductable, you might be able to raise anf this will lower premium. you take the risk that you will not use it , 40 bucks a month increase sounds awfull steep. How much was the claim?

Insurance companies dont like paying claims and last winter the wifey smashed into a tree, $1500 in damage our car ins. rates went up a little. But I have been told that if you make 2 or 3 home owners ins. claims in a year some companies will cancel your policy. Insurance is a necessary evil. Ya gotta have it or you can get really screwed.

It is very rare that your rates will not go up if you have a claim and are "at fault". Note the insurance company decides who was "at fault"; it has nothing to do with whether or not you are ticketed.

There are other things that come to play as well. Obviously, you lose part of your multi-car discount when you cancel a vehicle. You should confirm that your insurance company does not show your daughter as living in your house any more. Even if she updated her driver's license, they may have not picked it up due her name change.

It might be that while you had the third car on THAT POLICY the rate didn't change, but once you cancelled it, did they consider it as a NEW policy and that is when they rated you for the accident. I had a similar deal and that is what they told me

Multiple vehicle discount may have been lost, if that was the only other car on the policy. Yes I've seen more paid on a single vehicle than for two. Strange but true.

Had 3 cars on policy, still have 2. What really got me is they notified me about the 'rating' after the accident claim, dated the same date that I cancelled the policy. Seems to me as if they were going to let it go (sort of) until I cancelled the policy-now they say the 'rating' will be on me for 3 years. NICE! Greg
