I get at least two of those emails per week. I make sure to change my passwords at least once a month, sooner if I suspect people are trying to get in to my accounts.

The suggestion to forward them to spoof@ebay.com is correct. One time someone got into my wife's email AND eBay accounts and purchased several hundred dollars worth of items. We called eBay help, spent about half an hour on the phone and got it straightened out - zero cost to us, just the hassle of setting up a new account for email and at eBay.

The message will usually look authentic, but the headers will often tell a different story.

Do they use your real name or user id in the message, or is it somehow generic?

Scams emails like this have been going on since ebay started. Just ignore it unless you want to send all your money to Nigeria.

This is a scam. I regularly get such e-mails even though I don't use e-bay and have never had an account!

If you had to log-in to check the items, they now have your ID and Password. You need to change your password with EBAY as soon as possible. Go to their help section.

The emails were NOT from ebay WHATEVER you do, don't answer them!!!!! !!!!! !

Hit "FORWARD", then type in "spoof@ebay.com" in the "send to" box.

This will send them to the scam folks at ebay who then will HOPEFULLY contact the scammer's ISP's to have them shut down.
