As low an angle as that is just build a small open sided tool shed to set them in. You're in the prairie so they don't need to be on the roof or am I missing something like night visitors?

Spray the dish with Pam cooking spray or silicon lube. Works more times than not.

That is why mine is mounted on the eave by the back door. Not great but I can clean it from the porch. They do make some kind of cover for them to prevent snow and ice build up. I don't have one but a friend does. He claims they work well.

Yeah,

The covers work the best, especially during cold dry snows. However, it is mostly a question of do you wanna scrape the snow off the dish or off the cover. :>)

Heavy wet snow doing a melt is what kills 'em. That's why the "heaters" don't work. Not even a little bit.

allan if you put a clear cover on them you always could rig up a small heater to act as a defroster somehow at least it sounds simple .

What the heck Allan, it`s only May. The way this years goin, we could have another month of this stuff.

Think of all that good moisture going into the ground. I would guess your combine work is outside stuff, so your kinda double whammied. I feel for ya, it sucks being at the starting gate ready to go, and mother nature forgets to pull the lever.

Try using some heat tape that they use to wrap pipes from freezing. Just apply it to the back side of the dish and turn it on before the big snow comes.

Time for a new invention. Dish wipers, like windshield wipers for sat dishes.
