I have a gmc sufari van, the chevy asrto van is the same. I have a water leak at the front of the engine behind the air compressor I can see it comming from a gasket, using a mirror. I can't find my manual so I am needing some help here. What is the upper manifold gasket, and lower manifold gasket. Has anyone tackeled this job? Looks like a big pain in the, you know where. Any help apperciated Stan

upper manifold gasket seals the intake plenum to the intake manifold, lower gasket seals the manifold to the heads and block, your problem is the lower gasket, GM had huge trouble with this due to broke down dex cool eating out gasket components, have done the job many times, you are right it is not fun, depending on the year you may be eligble for some reimbursement due to a class action lawsuit filed agains gm and dexcool, I cant remember where to find it maybe someone can help with that. good luck!

Upper intake is intake air plenum which encases the CMFI injector assembly.Lower is the actual gasket leaking coolant on yours.

It's a sucky,back-straining job.I'd say take it to your mechanic.Not a job(no offense)for a novice.

Benig a ex aircraft mechanic nothing can compair to a radial engine for tight inaccessable components. There is no doubt I can do the job if I wasen't so busy with my discing, and mowing business. Just might take your advice and farm it out. Stan

When I was in the Phillipines the station had one, I think it was used for weather recon. The planes I worked on were twin engine P5M sea planes. Those were the good old days. stan
