Ran across a new, still in the crate 8 cyl crankshaft made for the military in the 50's by Fairbanks Morse. It weighs 750 lbs and is about 7 ft long. Marine diesel? Heavy equipment? May be worth whatever it weighs at the scrap yard.

F-M was still making railroad locomotives at that time. If it is railroad related railroad museums might be interested.

As you may know Fairbanks Morse is still in business.

I have heard of guys having good luck contacting their archivist for information on obsolete engines. WHO knows, perhaps they would help you identify the crankshaft?

Why not try contacting their archivist to see if they would help identify it, or would have any interest in it, or could direct you to an outfit that works with the older stuff that MIGHT want it. Who knows... the worst they can do is chew your butt for bothering them!

They have links to folks who work with their "legacy stuff" right on their website.

Might be a few museums looking for just that part. Don't scrap it just yet.

I'd try to find out what it goes to, A part that big would be worth a lot of money because it's gonna be rare.

Probably worth more for scrap. Liable to be a chore finding a buyer for such a piece.
