There is a post below about a field of peanuts - just wondering how peanuts are harvested?

Like jose bagge noted, Jimmy Carter could hammer, and if he came to my town tomorrow (which he won't), I'd try to be there to see & hear him.

After what teeborg81 described, the peanuts are dumped into a trailer and taken to a processing facility. The trailers are parked under a shed and hooked to a blower which dries the peanuts until they can be stored. I don't know how they are stored in the warehouse or how the shelling process works. Maybe someone can describe that.

BTW, I've been to Plains, GA, Carter's home. The Carter peanut operation was not very large as peanut facilities go in that area. Interestingly enough, the land around there is red. It appears to be fertile, however.

Peanuts are 'dug' first with a machine behind the tractor that digs them out of the ground and turns the peanuts up and the vines down while combining two rows together. They are left to dry after digging before be thrashed with a peanut combine. These are either self propelled or pull behind combines that remove the nuts from the vine.

You can view the harvesting equipment here: www.amadas.com

I'll say this for Carter:
He's the closest thing to a country boy we've had in office in a long time. Farmed, had a drunk a$$ brother, and can still swing a hammer and use a saw. Right or wrong, you knew everything he did was with the best of intentions and not personal gain. Didn't always agree with him, still don't, but I respected him

I gotta agree with you, Jose. I never cared for him while he was in office and I don't care for a lot of the things he does today. But many of the decisions he made while he was in office look better 20 years later. Carter was probably the most honest president we've had since Teddy Roosevelt.

I agree, didn't always agree with him, but he is honest. No BS. Got him in trouble lately. His contacts in the middle east might come in handy to a future administration.

Like old saying goes, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" Carter is and will be a buffoon in politics.

Well I see he did a good job of fooling you with his "country boy hick" acting job.
