In early May, I am going after a tractor i bought 1000+ miles away, I went though the trouble of posting an ad in a forum elsewhere on YT to haul for a fee to offset the fuel cost. Got to thinking however about liability etc. any thoughts before i chat with my insurance guy?

Go after your tractor and eat the cost.

If you haul "For Hire" the rules change and you will not like the rules. You may haul 100 loads and get by with the law thinking you are hauling your own tractor but 1 accident usually draws lawyers that are good at digging up the whole truth.

I could be wrong but I don't think you need all the licences that Mike is talking about. It would be a private haul , as you own the tractor, not a for hire haul.Insurance coverage upgrade for value of the tractor might not be a bad idea.
Just my opinion

Yes, you need all the lisence's that mike is talking about if you charge someone for hauling.
According to the DOT you are then a commercial trucker.

If you can afford it you are better off having a reputable trucking company haul it for you. If you are running out of state and are pulling a gooseneck trailer you will need combination license, valid medical card, commercial insurance, and last but not least the coveted CDL. It just isn't worth the headache if you don't have all your ducks in a row as fines can cost you in excess of 5000.00 dollars
good luck
