what oil is used in a4840 rear axle and is that also the hyd system oil we are having trouble with that axle oil overheating

If it is a mf I think they had 80-90 I would have to check at the book. they did have some axle troubles. Neil

Yes it is all hyd. oil but I guess the best bet is to pull out the manual and if unsure run down to your Deere dealer and have him run off a copy of the rear axle assembly change the trans.filters ,make sure the oil cooler is clean up by the radiator are you using John deere oil ? I would go with factory suggested oil.Do you have a heat gun to give you the actual trans, temp on the axles. Good luck the 4840 is my alltime favorite tractor
