I think I just bought my last item ever - from the classifieds on this website. Maybe a bit foolish on my part - but I tend to be more trusting with people selling here since I assume many are tractor enthusiests, collectors, etc.?

This is the second time in a row I got ripped off by somebody here - at least that's the way I see it. Or - am I missing something?

A guy has an ad in the classifieds right now - good used Case VAC parts. I was just getting ready to buy a brand new intake/exhaust manifold from the store on this webstie when I saw his ad. So I called, and asked if the manifold was in good shape, free of cracks ,etc. and . . . he told me it was perfect. So, being overly trusting I guess, I sent payment. Just got it here via UPS - and the photos show what I got. Could anybody who has brains enough to use wrenches and remove this from an engine NOT see the many cracks and poor quality welds? I saw it - even without my glasses on.

maybe he couldn't see the cracks. All the old welders I know can't see cracks or anything else up close because of weld burn on eyes. Still no excuse for the bird-gob welds tho. He could have felt those if he couldn't see.

Have you contacted this person to see if they will make it right? If they wont , I would reccomend posting this on the buyer/seller feedback forum on this site, with the pictures and the sellers name. Sorry to hear about this. I hope you can get it resolved. Is there any way you can stop payment on the check or complain/stop payment on your credit card if thats how you paid? Good luck.

Only time I ever tried to buy off here, person was a thief. I had a 1 or 2 model year run garden tractor and I needed a starter. Steelergals_Man (Chris) said he had one $25+10shp. This thief never sent my starter, then tried to blame me for his no-business running dumbassss, and everybody that ever ripped him off. I told him good, you should be ripped off if you think the fix is ripping off your next customer.
Here's the deal, I don't care if y-all here think this is political or your all time hero is Bush, but he emptied the nut-sack of legal official that would ever go after thieves like this. Your postal insp, state attorney, etc., do absolutly nothing. So anybody on here telling some to go after somebody through the legal system across state line, good luck.

Hi JD,

That's such a shame.

Have you considered giving George MD a shot at repairing it? George's pics sure looks good for his completed projects he shows on Ytmag.

I have no idea if it would be cost effective vs taking your loss and ordering a new one.

I certainly wouldn't call that a weld. I'd call it something more along the lines bird sh-t or even worse that would be censored. Actually anything from a bird would probably look better and be stronger. Let the guy know you aren't happy and give him the chance to make it right. If he doesn't, plaster his name all over the buyer/seller feedback. A lot people ask about a seller on there before buying. Some bad sellers really take offence to being called out. Just look up Vern Otto in the archives. He's one who deserves and has earned a bad reputation.

I am like you I tend to be trusting of people also. I bought a side car body for my Indian Motorcycle which was listed in good condition from a guy in Canada. I sent him 1200.00. When the side car arrived it was a total piece of crap. I guess we live and learn. It is now sitting in a shed, Stan

call him up and talk to him about it. Ive gotten stuff through people on this site (mag, carb, starter parts, even a tractor)and never had a problem yet. Most tractor folks are pretty honest, but theres always a bad apple

It doesn't matter where an item is advertised, here on YT or in any magazine. There are those who seem to thrive on taking advantage of trusting folks. Don't let the small minority of loosers get in your way of trusing others. You will pass up too many opportunities if you do.

YT has a forum set up to enter feedback or ask questions of others who may have dealt with a particular seller.

On the left side of the page under "Community" there is "Discussion Forums". Click on Discussion Forums and find "Feedback". A lot of information there about both sellers and buyers.

wouldn't this case be sorta considered fraud? that's the way i see it anyways. call him and tell him that he sent you a part that he said was perfect but is infact filled with welds and cracks and that you should get a full refund for a false description. otherwise i don't know what you could do

BTDT before. A number of years ago I bought a starter that was suppose to before a tractor I had. Had to have it rebuilt before it would even work and then to top it off it spun back wards so it didn't work. Total lost was almost $200. $125 for the starter and then $50 something for the rebuild and also the shipping. But most of the time people on here are good and true to there words but there are those few that are not

Well - you DID notice I didn't include his name? All I did is describe the event, and it certainly is tractor related and relevant to this forum.

If it bothers you - just don't read. That's real easy to do (or not to do).

Maybe if more people posted legitimate problems that occurred here - they'd happen less.

Maybe we need to get the same thing they have on EBay a way to let other's know if the guy is an honest seller or a bad apple. It helps to be able to check them out before you spend the big buck.

Given the 'quality' of both the questions and 'answers' given by the yuppies, wanna bee 'farmers', and small time gardeners that make use of this site, you cannot say that you were not warned about what you could expect about an accurate representation of the junk that they considered is 'as new' condition.

Yeah well . . . that works if the seller has a camera, knows how to use it, and knows how to attach them to an email. Not all do. And, even if the seller has all those abilities - what is stopping him/her from sending me photos of a different part?

Once upon a time - people were reliant on the good word of others in many deals.

So - according to you - it's my fault because I took someone for their word. OK - for that, I'm guilty. It's your kind of reasoning that lets some people do stuff like this and not feel guilty about it. I don't want to spend the rest of my life not trusing anybody - nor do I want people not trusting me.

I have alot of trust for people dealing in old tractors.Generally not alot of dead-beats in the market.Mostly good God-fearing folks. At least in my experiences anyway.

You did nothing wrong and are owed an apology and a refund ,or a replacement.

You know, it's hard to believe a seller would state something like that, when it's obvious that the part has been repaired. You are a known "wrench" around here too, maybe the person did not know you from here, thought they'd fool you, does not make sense, an easy way to get into a dispute too.

Over the last several years I've bought some parts and things on e-bay and directly with strangers, and mostly everything I've bought has been like it was stated, or close enough, photos are sometimes hard to judge, but most times suffice. I think a seller should be willing to provide extra photos for an item like this, to a serious buyer. I can't think of one time that I've been had, I'm sure it could happen and maybe it will, but I do think there are decent people out there, I've bought a fair amount of used parts from complete strangers, things I needed and could not find, even went back into old posts and found a guy who parted a simplicity 4040, a year prior, I needed a fuel tank, could not find one anywhere, but this person still had one, and when I got it, was just like it was stated, he provided photos too. Sometimes you get a bad apple, always ask for clear photos, if they can't do that, then maybe there is something wrong.

In '02, I saw an ad for a low hour D7 cat, spoke to the owner, he mailed some photos, it looked legit, sent him half the money, few weeks later the rest and let him know I found trucking to haul it 1200 miles here. The trucker was such a nice person, I called, told him what I had, he picked the dozer up, just from a phone call, by a complete stranger !! He delivered it here just from that call, I had a check for his driver, + $100 tip. The person I bought the D7 from struck me as an honest person from the beginning, it was a low hour machine, both engines ran great, just that the clutch pilot bearing went, was never greased previously, so it went, wallowed out a hole in the driven plate, I had to find a complete used assembly, still have to get friction materials replaced on it. Did not bother me though, was a good deal and everyone was honest, he may have known that clutch was going bad, but because of what it is, really not a big deal, these things are subjective, they don't always work out 100%, and I'd probably not buy something sight unseen again if possible. NOt much else wrong with the old beast, the tracks are %90, I measured the components with a track gauge, the hours were definitely true.

I bought this old F-600 grain truck, unseen, the seller lied about a few things, was a used truck dealer, he took it in on a trade, and it was a relic on the lot, now I paid up front to change ALL fluids and make sure it'll make the 800 miles home, he did not tell me that it had a bad alternator, voltage regulator and the battery was on it's way out too, until I showed up to pick it up, they were jump starting it. He could have just told me, and I'd have gladly paid the $100-$150 bucks for the parts + labor to avoid getting stuck on the side of the road. Well, I picked up a battery and you know this thing limped all the way home, I never shut it off, must have been barely charging, ran all night too, I'm glad it did hold out, was an easy fix at home, but I'd have been ticked if I got stuck on the road for something so simple to fix.

I'd still say most are fair and honest, just have to try and root out the bad ones before you agree to buy, still might happen, but the good still seems to outweigh the bad here.

I beleive its good to be trusting of others ,hgowever you have an outright liar here,or someone so stupid that they ship something without even looking at it,which is doubtful. But if you call him on it and he refunds without whining it may be an employee or someone else screwed up.Then again he told you it was "perfect" that is an outright lie at this point.

Dick L , you are a marketing guru! Some people will spend thousands and 4-6yrs of their life in college to get a degree in marketing just to learn how to do what you just instructed. That, and variations of the same, are used on the trusting public every day. It's very unfortunate but in this world today you can either be a doormat or an A-Hole because there seems to be no in-between any more. And I , for one ,refuse to be a doormat so guess what that makes me? When it's all said and done , the best you can hope to gain from this is an education. The next chump you buy from may think you are an A-hole because of your demands before sale but it's either that or be a "doormat" again. The choice is yours. Unfortunately the "RULES" in this world are made by the criminals so you can either out-think them and their rules or you can be a victim . The Government sleeps in their bed so don't look to them for any help.

Be careful posting on this website about this. I have posted twice about bad deals and people will make you feel like YOU are the bad person. I know exactly how you feel right now with my two situations. I really hope you get your money back.

Be prepared for the following:
You will get hammered for yourself taking that chance or "risk" as some people call it. People will then tell you bought it cheap and should be happy. People will then tell you it is a 50 year old part, what do you expect? Next, my favorite, people will say you should go look at that part before you buy it, even if it is 1200 miles away.

Again good luck, and dont listen to the people that tell you the above comments.

That's a pretty broad generalization! I've bought stuff from a couple of ads on YT and advertised stuff on YT and have been satified and so have the guys who bought the stuff I advertised.

It's unfortunate that you've had bad experiences. Did you contact the seller and voice your complaints? What was his response?

I guess no matter where you're doing business for used parts you have to beware and try to only pay a "fair" price for what you're buying.

jdemaris, I'd agree that he was "less than honest". I wouldn't let that discourage you from buying from ANYONE who advertises on YT. Most are good folks. Live and learn, ask for pictures before you buy. And definately ask that the seller refund your money, as well as shipping costs, this is not what you described that you purchased.
