He also designed the 500 series of Cockshutts. They won an industiral engineering prize when they were introduced. Some debate however as to whether the roundnose ones are more beautiful than the square 500 series. The roundnose ones were designed by an architech who did not have international standing like Loewy. I believe. Loewy sure did a nice job on the 53 Studebaker. The actual design was done by Bob Bourke, who worked for the loewy agency.

I thought someone would mention Farmall tractors. Raymond designed the first styled McCormick Deering as well as Farmall tractors which were the letter series. I thought they were some of the nicest looking tractors. When the numbered series came along the company decided to "improve" on the design. I say they failed.

Raymond Loewy it is.The father of American industrial design. We have all probably held his coke bottle. Also redid the Lucky Strike pack. The list goes on,Nabisco logo,Shell, Exxon. He was born in the 1800s[1893?] and lived until 1986.He still designed in the seventies.I thought he was interesting and found a good website on him.He was frustrated by the fact that Detroit did not hire him more.He loved fast cars.Quite a guy.[He called Harley Earl designs "chrome barges"] Also wrote INDUSTRIAL DESIGN.Had a swimming pool in the living room of his California home.

Okay, Thurlow,

I'm old enough to remember Red Schoendinst, but I'll bet many on this board have never heard the name before.

Maybe you should do a Trivia Question about him!
