I was thinking about buying a new John Deere riding mower with a 50 plus inch deck but they are expensive. My dad has a nice 641 Work Master Ford that I would like to buy from him.Would a 641 with a 6 ft finish mower(a GOOD one)be a good choice over a large size lawn mower?Do any of you run this kind of set up and how well do you like it?I have a 3 acre yard.

An 8n will spin a 6' finish mower.. a 641 ( kind alike an updated NAA ) should make short work of a 6' finish mower. Good combo..

Should work fine,I bought a Walco-Douglas Finishing mower last year and do as nice of a job as a regular riding mower. Has plenty of suction to pich up the grass in the wheel tracks and leave no un-cut areas.

I have run a 6' finish mower with an allis chalmers b 22-24 horsepower. Plenty of power only problem I had was the b is very light in the front end and when I would lift the mower it was always a guess whether the mower or the front end was gonna raise up off of the ground. I don't think you will have as much problem with that on the 641 because it sits much lower, but that is a guess. Besides you will look much cooler on an old ford than a new jd. Good luck deciding, Mike

Finish mowers work fine and that tractor should have no trouble with it. A good quality finish moer will cut fast and clean.

Disadvantages: If you have a lot of bushes, flowers and trees to cut around, the finish mower will cause you to do a lot of double cutting and turning. If you have to back it up a lot, it may get tiresome, but you can back the thing under a lot of bushes and low trees.
Hooking it up and taking it off gets old fast.

Would be a good set up. My uncle runs a 5' finish mower on his 8N- with power to spare. 8N is 26 h.p., 641 is 32 h.p., plus live hydraulics. Set the tires in to 6' or less and go for it.

I don't have much experience with finish mowers but a bunch of people say the 8N will run a finish mower. The 641 has an extra 6 hp or so, a lot more weight, live hydraulics, and is just a better machine. I think it would be an excellent match, but ilke I said, I've never used one. So I could be wrong.

My grandpa's Ford 631 (basically same tractor, with PTO as option) will run a 5' Brush Hog just fine, if that means much to you.
