I want to get into heavy equipment operation.
Warren county career center (link below)is the nearest place that has it for me. What do I look for? The only other place is up in Columbus, but I can't really leave for any period of time, too much responsibility around the farm for now. How do I check, how their rated? Is going to a small school give me less of a chance to get hired rather than a large school? Help from some one in the profession would be great. Thanks

Everyone's situation is different, but some of you young folks that are wanting to continue your education may want to take a look at the Army (or one of the other Services) Not many places will hire you without any experience, pay (in a lot of cases) a generious sign on bonus, train you and provide for a real generous college fund, put a roof over your head and feed you real good while giving you the best of countless services (free). And, when you decide to leave, provides second to none transformation services to get you back into the civilian life on both feet.

Just a thought.

Good Luck,

Dave

Check with the Operating Engineers union. They run four year apprenticeship programs where THEY PAY YOU to learn to run heavy equipment. I don't know about Ohio, but here in Michigan you need to get on their waiting list. Every two or three years they open up for applications, so you want to get your name on their list TODAY in case they open up for applications.

I found this link to information on the apprenticeship program of Operating Engineers Local 18 in Ohio. It looks like they last took applications in February 2008. Give them a call and find out what the scoop is.
