A year or so ago, someone posted a pic of an extension to raise the heighth of their floor jack so they could jack up their tractor without the use of blocks, etc. I thought I saved the pic, but haven't had any luck finding it. Has anyone made one of these, and if so, could you post the pic and some dimensions? If memory serves me correctly, it was just a box with a piece of pipe welded to the bottom to fit in the round hole in the floor jack. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

I'll take a good piece of OAK over steel any time.

My extension is a piece of .25 4"x 4" box tube, plated on both top and bottom, about 8" long. The top plate has two 4" peices of angle iron welded on 2 sides to create a non-slip ledge. Centered on the bottom plate is a 2" peice of 1 5/8 sched 40 pipe that drops into the top of the jack.

That 4x4 is in compression, I think it would take a helluva load to compromise it. But- always remember that ant jack is a temporary lifting device only, and get a jack stand under it pronto!

Some tractors are pretty heavy. Never make it out of wood either! As for metal box for one. That would have to be some thick heavy metal to support a tractors wight. To dangerous for me to try it anyway. *S Remember that some of these floor jacks you get say from Wal Marts. Might say 2 ton on them. But in real they support mostly like a 1 1/2 ton and can and do leak off at times or tilt to side and fall.

I don't and never would intend on leaving the tractor on the jack, just need an extension for the jack to get the tractor in the air to get the cribbing under it. I've used a hardwood block to get the height I need, but would like something that is a little more stable. Sometimes the block wants to walk off the jack. And as far as the jack goes, it is a heavy duty made in USA 8 ton jack, not one of those little lightweight toys.

I'd trust wood cribbing 10:1 than a hyd jack under a tractor...

i can tell you for a fact that wood cribbing made of certain hardwoods has a specific engineered weight capacity rating when stacked in specific ways. its solid, stable, and works very well to hold up heavy objects such as a tractor. always remember, lift an inch, crib an inch.

Here in MN, they moved a house onto a lot last fall, waiting until frost is out to build the basement. House has been sitting on 2 large I beams & 4 corners of cribbing, 9 feet high, 3 feet above ground level (we do basements here, so basement hole is dug & sitting in hole) all winter. That cribbing has had a long winter, doing well so far. :)
