I have a 8 ft flail mower, I have not put to the test yet. Like most of the things I buy they are in need of repair. When I get this thing back together when ever that is, what is to keep weeds from wrapping around the knife shaft in a big giant ball? Stan

When I worked for the D.O.T. we used them on the roadsides, they are great. If your in heavy or tall stuff we found they will cut better if you don't try to cut the full 8'. The biggest problem we had was hitting (soft things) the cutters will bounce off rocks and metal but will shear on wood or tires. Always keep your RPMs up there.

Don't let the pto drop below 540 rpm and you'll be fine as long as you have enough HP to run it and the knives are somewhat decent. If your cutting really tall grass and weeds and you don't have the power, it will rip the grass out and it will wrap aroung the cutter shaft. In real tall grass if you're low on power, you can lift it up a bit and go over a second time with it lower. If you run into barbed wire is a real pain to remove. BTDT. Flails are good if any garbage or rocks are hidden in the grass. What make of flail is it? Dave

Dave at this time I really don't know what brand it is. I think the company is out of business. I did find baldes from flail master that are 1/4 in thick, and are a exact match. it is set up to move the complete cutter assembly in or out. Probably for use in orchards, around trees. Wouln't rocks tare up the cutters? Stan

I would think as long as the flail RPM's stay up where they should be everything would get shredded small enough before it got a chance to catch and wrap up.

The only trouble I had with one I owned was one of the bearings went out. They work good in weeds that they can chop up, long grass is kind of tough. Never had a problem with stuff wrapping around it. The flails seemed to keep things pretty cut up.
