Can anyone recommend a free antivirus software
similar to AVG that does not eat up a lot of RAM when it runs?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

AVG, and i am very happy with it. I do not let it automatic update. I do that myself every week or so. If you do, every time you turn on computer it will be slowing things down. I do not let it automatic check drives. Thats takes time too. Not neccesary to do all the time.

I'm using AVG free and I barely even notice when it is running. Maybe you need to add more memory?

Virtual memory reminder did come up couple days ago. Ithink that takes care of its self. Also i think automatic upgrades do happen so i should not leave that happen-only when i am ready?

You can also go into your AVG preferances and chang the time when it does the scans and the updates. I've got mine set to do the scan at 1 o clock in the morning. The up dates take place at noon. Very seldom do I ever know that either one has taken place.

Norton is SHIITE, but not as big of piece of SHIITE as McAfee.

AVG is good, CA is better, MicroTrend is Best.

My computer takes forever to re start when it is turned off-15+ minutes sometimes.Seems to work ok there after. If i put on standby instead of turning off i can be back using it in short order. Is it nessary to turn these off?I have Norton an Spybot for virus protection.

I used to use Noton and thought it the best. Then later program versions got monterous large and took over the whole computer and I cleaned it all out. Could be this, depending on what version you have. If later nortons--dump it.
