I've got a 42 H farmall tractor ; ahead of the hitch towards the front about 2 feet is a plate and above is a collar like with 2 cotterpins. Whats that for and how does it come apart. I need to put a seal in it. It's leaking

It's the driveshaft for the Liftall hydraulic pump.

Pull the two cotter pins out, slide the collard toward the middle of the shaft and then turn the shaft until it falls out. Has a slotted drive on each end.

If it leaks on the pump side, you will need to take the pump out to fix it. The drive couplings are threaded on. The transmission side can be removed by putting the tractor in gear and locking the breaks to turn the coupling off the threaded shaft, then 3 bolts remove the seal retainer.

Go to the Farmall forum above center. Use the search for box to find Lift all coupling seal. That will explain this common reality..JimN
