I don't know how many of you are being hurt and I mean hurt serious by the price of Gas and Diesel but its killing us here. When are the people of what is supposed to the be the land of opportunity, the greatest country in the world at one time going to say enough is enough? Something has go to be done here or your going to see a downfall in this country that will make the great depression look like a walk in the park. We are hurtin here in rural America, don't know about yall that are well off but we are being raped here. We need relief.

I'd suggest quit crying for help as you try to carry water in a sieve. Go get a pail. Get my drift?

We are going to have to think out of the box as to how we get back and forth to work. Toyota sells a plug in hybrid elsewhere in the world, but not in the US. Who knows why. GM has developed a plug in Saturn and hopefully will be selling it in the next couple of years. The plug in version of the Toyota Prius can go about 40 miles and then switches to gasoline. Most commutes are under 40 miles. If enough of these things can make it to market and get the price affordable, we could start to make a dent in gasoline consumption. Google 'Phoenix electric car', 'Cheverolet Volt', and 'plug in hybrid' and you can get an idea of what we could accomplish if we put minds to it.

I dont know.... This is the one area I might belive there is some hanky panky going on.

I have been reading alot about all this new exploration in the Dakotas and the keystone state. All that stuff is hard to get at and oil prices need to be above $60 a barrel to make money on it.

I think the prices are high because some one thinks we will be better off in the long run with high fuel costs.
Same as I think the price was low because some one thought we were better off with them low.

I bet we never get under $2.50 again.

Cussing big oil isn't the solution, the state and federal gov. make a lot more than than the oil companys do. If you want lower prices we need to drill Anwar and off the coast of Florida. We really need to build some nuclear power plants and yes you can build it in my backyard, background radiation in Western Colorado is higher than allowable in a power plant. We also could build more gas and diesel from coal of which we have huge amounts of in the west.

Plenty oil, a lot of stupidity, crooks, payola, etc..
Why are we paying for a theoretical shortage 50-100 years down the road, if ever? And in a hundred year might there be alternate energy sources and why are all the oil companies getting into these alternate sources of energy? Anybody in the oil business says it's stock piled everywhere. Exxon said over the next ten years they weren't going to increase their production level (Whats that do?) A lot to do with refineries and the Government letting them get away with crap. Why does a little fire in backwood Texas cause the price of oil all over the world to go up?

I know what one problem is.... The big oil companies combined to form, Exxon/mobil Chevron/Texaco
Plus other company mergers.
Congress allowed this merger to take place, Seems that right after the mergers prices went up. 100 years ago Teddy Roosevelt broke up Standard oil and their mafia type business practices, If Congress had any balls they would make Exxon, Mobil, Chevron, Texaco be single companies again.

Since you brought it up,I had something happen yesterday that left me a little confused. There's a fuel station next to the fertilizer plant that only sells biofuels. E10,E85,B5 and B20. The sign out front priced B5 at 4.09. I always use B20 when I get fuel there,so I pulled up to that pump. It was 4.11. Why does fuel with less petroleum cost more? The regular gas station down the road had straight petroleum diesel for 4.08.

Easy- look at grain prices along with the amount of energy it takes to make the stuff. Heard too, if the govn't wasn't subsidizing it would be even higher.

Has anybody noticed that as the consumer cuts down use of gas to try to save money several states are raising their fuel tax to try to cover loss of revenue from fewer gallons?? Looks like da--ed if we do and da--ed if we don't.

I drive 50 miles round trip to work every day. I try not to travel from the office to other businesses if I can help it. I used to drive 150 miles north to trout fish; didn't at all last summer. I refuse to let the truck sit in the driveway all weekend if there's something close I want to do--auctions tomorrow. My daughter also goes to school in the town I work and I won't deny her the opportunity to attend dances or parties or other events because of fuel prices. We just cut back in other places.

I feel for the families working for $8-10 an hour and have to buy gas at these prices or farmers with fuel costs. You guys don't have much choice; you need to plant, spray, etc. Not many ways to cut down on fuel.

Don't see much coming from either party, except whatever get's them elected. Then they forget.

Larry

Hate to say it fellow, but you gotta move closer or find a job near you.....

You must be spending $20 a day x 5days = $100 + a week =$5,200 a year + wear on your truck 10 cents a mile.....$500 .....at least $5,700 -$6,000 a year, just to get to work and back.all this if you get 20 mpg.....

That would buy two good old tractors.....

I am retired now,but I used to drive 52 miles a day day @ $0.74 a gal..... ..didn't take long to wear out a nice truck..... ..I moved closer.....

As a country we have let the Gov. take care of us, now collectively we have forgotten how to take charge and change things.

I feel your pain, too.

We can blame ALL the politicians and lawyers for what is happening to our country. Every day they are taking one of our rights away, but it is our own fault to, because when it comes to re-election, we vote the same people in. Not me, I will never vote twice for the same person again! My opinion of the Oil Companies are that they are not any better that the terrorist, themselves. I hate to see what my two young Grand-daughters are going to see in their live-times. I keep telling them they will have to change things, because I don't have that much time left. What I don't understand is, the politicians and lawyers can't see what they are doing! Thanks for letting me rant!

Since Mobil imports most of their oil, lets start a price war. If no one buys from them they will be forced to lower the price. I think it would work if everyone would know about it and participate. What do you think?

Gary, you only "think" you are hurting now. There is no where for prices to go but UP UP UP. China's demand for fuel is going up exponentially, and they have the money to pay higher prices from selling us all the junk products that fill all the wally world stores. USA consumers always put price first and quality a distant second. We have lost most of our manufacturing base and are totally dependent on China. In the near future they will outbid us for mideast oil production, driving prices out the roof. We have 20-30 million criminals here bleeding the medical and education systmes to death, and NOT ONE candidate will enforce the border or laws. USA is fastly becoming a third world country. Complete military needs rebuilding after 5 years in desert. We have run on debt spending increases for 7 years straight. Over 30 percent of all revenues are needed just to pay interest on national debt. The latest round of economy stimulas deal planned will be finance with more debt, that China will be the largest buyer of the debt to make interest off of us. USA as a leader nation is in its last years. Headed for an official 2-language nation status. Gas and diesel prices are going to level out at about European prices of about double what it is now. Gary this comment may not relate to YOU but it does to America in general.

What has everyone done to do something about the gas prices. Have you cut use. Have you traded in your big SUV or 1 ton for a smaller car. Have you ajusted your driving habits by slowing down; quit jack rabbit starts from red lights just to beat someone to the next turn off. Have you cut weekend use out as much as posiable by stopping at the store on the way home from work rather than making a special trip.

If you look at the wal mart parking lot or slow down a watch the trafic race around you then you will see the answer to all questions above are "NO".

As long as the demand is there the price will keep going up.

I've cut down on my driving. We used to drive 35 miles to "the big city" on a whim. Haven't done that for quite a while. Apparently we're not the only ones. Last night on the news (Ohio) they announced road repair projects are being cancelled due to a drop in gas tax receipts. It's a tax per gallon and they said less gallons are being consumed. Seems like a catch 22 that could spiral out of control.
