I recently bought a property with an old classic tractor. I wanted to haul it away to scrape, but would be more interested in a tractor enthusiasts to take it and refurbish. any suggestions on how to track down someone interested?

Hate to tell ya, Andy, but parting out a tractor will often bring in more money than a complete one. Had a Farmall 450 that needed an engine that I was asking $500 for - no takers, no tire kickers, nothing. Sold the power steering for $300, wheels and tires for $250, live hydraulic pump for $250, and everything that was left for another $300. So, instead of $500 for a nearly whole tractor I ended up with $1100 and a free wide front end for my H.

Some tractors need to be parted out, the death of one can save the lives of many. For the very same reasons I am an organ donor.

Well, thanks for the consideration. I think that's a nice jesture and real neighborly of you. What you may do, is go down to your local tractor repair place and tell them what you've come into, and just explain that you'd prefer to give someone a chance at it, as opposed to scrapping it, and ask them if they'd mind if you posted it on their cork board. I've got some around me, not the dealers, but tractor salvage yards and repair that do that. And, heck, they may offer you a couple of $$$ themselves to part it out for folks, many that come here that need them kind of parts to make their's complete. By the way, never can tell that tractor repair guy may just say, "Ya know? I've got a couple of parts for that guy that'll get it running for you, for cheap" and next thing you know, we'll be seeing pictures posted here of your restored...

Much good luck, and I for one surely do thank you for your consideration. I'm sure that others do as well. Grin.

Mark

Take several pictures and share them with us... we can help identify make, model, and possible range of values to a collector/restorer/hobbyist.

To me there is no such thing as a scrap tractor. I save as many as I can and will not sell any of hem as scrap. Where are you there is probably some one close that will buy it for as much or more then it would bring as scrap

Sounds like your a narrow minded scrapper that does not care about the history these tractor made of the food they put in the mouths of people over the year. Your also a person that does not think of the future and the fact that 75% of the scrap goes to China and one of these days it will come back to us as bombs and bullets like Japan did to us in 1941. People like you just burn me up and should not even be on this site since its for the saving of the old iron that you seem not to care about

Why do you scrap tractors? If you scrap tractors, you hate tractors. Why don't you scrap cars & vehicles instead? If you sold tractors to people who will save them, you would get more money than scrap prices. I wish there was no such thing as a Scrap Yard.

Your "pain" is someone elses treasure. Did you write this just to p*ss people off? What are you doing on an antique tractor forum anyway?

The only reason a tractor would go to the salvage yard is that someone is too lazy or uninfomed to track down a buyer.

Sir,rawstin asked for opinions of what to do with the tractor. I gave mine. So in turn it would appear you are the jack a$$,and a stinking one at that!

Well sorry if I offended you but it is not right to tell a guy to scrap his tractor when you have no idea the brand, value, or condition. What if he has a rumley oil pull or a JD GP beaner or something on the rarer end. The only reason I call you that is because you made a rash decision with no knowledge to back it up, and furthermore why are you on an antique tractor board if you say to scrap old tractors without knowing the condition?

Need info. Location, brand, model, serial number, rough idea of condition, any history such as how long parked, etc. How about the ultimate - a photo. Tom

There is lots of interest out here. First of all What make is it, what color is it, can you find a serial number on it. Most of us here cringe at the thought of another piece of history going to the scrap yard. Give us all the info including your area of domicile. Thanks Henry
