Plowing snow today (18 in's of wet snow) H guit shifting. Won't go in to gear, I had to shut off motor then shift it in gear and start the tractor with it in gear to get it home. The last few times I used it it was getting hard to shift when the motor was at fast idle. Any ideas out there? thanks.

Mine did the same thing one afternoon when I was turning some ground with my Little Genius. Killed it and shifted it so I could limp back to the shop. I got a big dead blow sledge hammer and just beat on the side of the clutch housing area and it freed up. Been trouble free since then. Im sure its just postponing the inevitible, but since I just use it as a toy, really dont feel like tearing it down and spending a barrel of money on it.

The Hammer Rule in reply to TxFarmallFan, 04-08-2008 08:45:12
Beat with progressively bigger hammers until you break something, then back down one size.

WHAT could beatin' on a torque tube possibly do to loosen up a frozen clutch?????

Lunacy!

Don't do it D-B.

Sure sounds like clutch.

First attempt at a fix would be to check and adjust your free-play on the pedal.

If there isn't enough adjustment room left, it's likely one or more of your fingers have slipped out of adjustment.

I don't know if the H has a bearing or a bushing as a pilot at the front end of the shaft (maybe somebody will chime in on that), but if there's any serious binding there, that would be the next thing to check if the problem persists after after making sure the adjustment of the whole clutch and linkage is squared away.

I agree..clutch...maybe just clutch fingers need adjusting, could be in the linkage..if tractor is working otherwise, I'm guessing adjustment issues, but one thing there is no doubt it is the clutch!

Clutch.

Bad.

Dad drove one like that 10 miles to the repair place, only had one stop sign to get through, needed to time out the state hwy traffic, but he did have several left hand turns to make too.
