I have a 1965 Ford 1 ton truck that I haven't so much as looked at in 4 or 5 years. Well with all the rain damage to my drive way I need it as soon as I can get into the creek to haul gravel. It has a factory dump bed on it. Well I went out today, put a battery in it, primed the carb, and cleaned the points and it fired right up. The I had to put some gas in the tank and prime the fuel pump and try again. Couple of tries and it was running real good. This old truck doesn't even have 81,000 miles on it. Sure is nice to be able to do so little to make it work again. To bad the brakes don't work and to fix them would cost more then $250

The old 51 Ford F-6 truck sat in the same spot for 10 years untouched before my brother and I decided we should play with it. Added gasoline and a battery, pulled it about 100 yards and it was running just like new. Can't beat that old flathead v-8 sound!

About 10 years ago I had an old 67 Ford one ton That sat in an old isolated barn for about 4 years without being touched. I thought it was a shame to let it set there and rust when there might be someone who would like to restore an old truck so I ran an add to sell it. 2 days later I had a buyer. I was busy and didn't have time to go get it until about an hour before he was supposed to meet me. I took a new battery and fresh gas, poured a little gas down the carburator and about 10 turns it fired up and purred like a kitten. It was about a mile to my house so I drove it down a farm road and backed it up where it would look good when my buyer drove up. Well he drove up just as I was parking it. Just as I was about to get out and meet him and brag about how it started up I felt something move under my butt. It felt kind of creepy so my first reflex was to sling the door open, leap out and run. He was watching me the whole time. Just as he got out of his truck a 7 foot black snake dropped down off the running board and slithered off into my tractor shed. He went ahead and bought the truck but he and his buddy spent an hour going thru the cab digging and poking with sticks to make sure there was not another one in there. He put on a dealer tag and drove it home.

My uncles "L" Case had been sitting for about 30 years and when we got it out for his auction we checked the oil, poured some water in the rad. poured some gas in the tank, pulled it about 30 feet and it was running. The water ran out pretty fast from a rotten rad hose though.

Old You just might need them brakes when you get her loaded down with rock. Might ought to see about getting some parts at a junk yard.

Master cylinder is bad, plus probably all the wheel cylinder. It has a 4 speed and I just drive it in 1st and 2nd most of the time. If I drive it much I do add fluid to the master and then some times I have iffy brakes. I only use it on the farm and my drive way and theres always the key

I have a few vintage chainsaws and snowmobiles, but they don't have the reliability of the heavier iron. Just because it was working when you put it away doesn't mean that it will work when you get it out.

That right there is why I like the vintage tractor hobby. If you spend time fixing one of the tractors, it stays fixed. No vintage trucks yet...
