This past Friday I took a load of scrap metal to the scrap yard. While unloading there was a 190XT sitting there with the sheetmatal damaged, and a 7 foot new holland mower conditioner in mint condition. The guy run the crane said they were putting stuff like that to the side but they have gotten so much that they just have to start crushing it now. Nice half of a harrow with almost new disc sticking out of the pile. What a shame.

Yeah, same thing going on here .... very few items at our local yard go 'on the side' anymore. About 2 years ago there was a lot old, horse-drawn implements going through there but that's dried up now. It seems like the bigger stuff has been coming in for the past year ..... there was a nice looking HD-11 in there last week that would turn over but had been sitting for several years .... it's been cut up and shipped by now. A sidelight to all of this is that the auctions are running dry ..... the antique dealers are buying whatever 'yard ornaments' show up ..... it used to be you could buy an old dump rake or potato digger for 40 or fifty bucks but I've seen some rakes priced at $250-300 at the antique shops. There was a ROUGH '47 VAC with a jury-rigged belly blade on it priced at $2,000 last summer ..... it was gone in a month. The only way I can find stuff anymore is to get way back off the main roads and then I make sure that both me and the owner know the current scrap price ..... I offer them 110% of that and go from there 8)

What's short 300 series (non-magnetic) stainless and #2 copper bringing right now? Especially in the northeast?

Dang, sure seems like it would be easy for these scrap guys to just throw an E-bay ad up when they get in something like that.

Greenville, Mi has a 1948 Cletrac Diesel with the motor stuck, right now. I talked him into putting a ad in here.

if it were closer to me id go too, i think its time to try to work with these scrap yard guys what about getting them hold old tractors and machinery for say a couple of weeks, and to post on places like here and a few others with what they got in and give folks the chance to rescue the stuff? if we give them a few bucks proffit over what they got in the thing we want, we could maybe save some of this stuff, and keep it from showing back up as some usless junk from china, i think we're seeing a lot of "kids" that only care about making a buck cleaning out their folks places when they pass away, they just dont care about family history or that maybe someone would like to restore their old things or at least use it to fix up theirs,

Where is this scrapyard? I'll go with an empty trailer and bring back a full one. Do people have absolutely no concept that equipment is worth more than scrap. H#ll, take it to an auction. Aploigize for the rant.

I take stuff there sometimes and saw a aluminum bass boat hooked to one of the employees truck and he said some one just went across the scales with it boat in great shape but unknown the condition of the motor. He said he buys alot of the stuff that comes through there look out back next time you go by most of the cars and such out there are saved from the scrap pile to be resold by the employee that bought it for profit. In the same day as the boat he bought a running 80s Dodge truck that a guy had brought a couple loads in that day with and last trip he left the truck.

Off the top of my head, that's $200 a ton ain't it? Place right up the road is at 210. Greenville is 215. Grand Rapids is paying 250. 290 for 2 foot.
