Ohio soldier's remains found, father says
Sunday, March 30, 2008 7:16 PM By DEBBIE GEBOLYS

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH The Ohio man who had been the only soldier the U.S. Army listed as "missing-captured" in Iraq has been confirmed dead.

Sgt. Matt Maupin was 20 years old, a private first class in the Army Reserve, when he was captured April 9, 2004. His fuel convoy, part of the 724th Transportation Co., was ambushed west of Baghdad.

A week later, television network Al-Jazeera showed a video of Maupin sitting on the floor surrounded by five masked men holding automatic rifles.

His parents, Keith and Carolyn Maupin of Batavia, rallied in support of American troops and kept faith that their son would return home. The divorced couple met several times with President Bush and sent more than 30,000 pictures of their son to U.S. soldiers, hoping they would keep looking.

Maupin was promoted twice after his capture.

An Army general told Maupin’s father that his remains had been found in Iraq, the Associated Press reported. DNA tests were used to confirm Maupin’s identity.

I think the family could use prayers right now.

If you want to shoot your mouth off, go over to the new OT forum. This thread is for the memory of someone who died to give you the freedom of speech, even if it's stupid. Show some respect.

Is a shame that this had to happen let along over 4000 times for? The rules of engaugement is like a bridge card game-tooo many rules. If Patton was present we would in the bottom of the ninth enning. He had one rule miss up their day first. When a man wearing stars speaks out Bush can's him. Army 68 & 69.

This is not a political thread. That's what the new OT board is for. If you don't care about this soldier then please don't comment, keep it to yourself.

Very sad indeed. It almost looks like another thankless war that the American Soldiers are fighting for in Iraq. As well as the Canadian Soldiers fighting for in Afganastan. Do these countries appreciate what both The United States, and Canada are trying to doo overthere? I agree, now the family can have closure for their son. My thoughts, and prayers are with them as well. Bruce.

My Prayers to the family.. Sad as the outcome was, at least the family can now have some closure. I can imagine that years of not knowing , must have been so hard on the family..

Yes heard he was found now. Sorry to hear that they had to kill him! But when we do something over there to them. We are the bad one's. So we have to treat them like a kid caught who was caught shop lifting and if we don't the new reports want to make a big stink of how bad we are. But it's ok to cut a man's head off or shoot him or her in the head over there. Just not right as I see it.
