I have a 671 Ford 1959-1960 with the Select O Speed trans the guy I got it from told me the trans had some problems and it would best to replace the trans for a std. trans that would fit in it What will be a interchange for this model I would like to know if something like the two range Sherman trans would work? there was something missing on the dash under the steering wheel (from pictures I see it had a handle to change to speed) on the top of the trans there is a short shifter coming out on the side seems to just turn freely is that how it should be?

You could always go to the Ford board on this web site and ask about fixing your SOS trans. Lots of guys over there that know how to work on them and that may be your cheapest route.

Wasn't there someone on here a few days ago trying to give away a bunch of new parts for a sos? Said his Dad had bought them to fix his, but died before he got started and the guy just wanted to get rid of the parts. Chris

I have the Sherman Combo if you end up with a 4 speed. Doesn't matter which clutch either. I have both types of the input shafts.
Good luck,
jim

A 4 speed, 4 speed with Sherman auxillary, 5-speed, or 5-speed with live pto can be swapped in, with the right parts. (clutch, flywheel, clutch linkage, clutch pedal, etc.) If you post this over on teh Ford board, there are guys there that can help you more... and probably at least one who would buy your tired SOS.
